Yankee Heritage Tole Chapter Community Service
As part of our mission, YHT members participate in community service. YHT members are currently supporting three community service programs: Kelley Backpacks, Operation Shoebox, and Visitation House.
YHT members make a difference in the lives of others with their generosity and by sharing their creativity and decorative painting talents.
Kelley Backpacks is a charity program established by medical students at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. This program provides backpacks to children and infants being discharged from the hospital into emergency foster care. Backpacks are gender and age specific and are filled with a blanket, a stuffed animal, pajamas, toiletries, and age appropriate activities. The backpacks give the children something that is theirs to keep and helps them to feel cared for. Thanks goes out to YHT members who have generously donated backpacks and the items to fill them.
Send an email to Kelly Backpacks for More information regarding this beneficial program.
Operation Shoebox gives us the opportunity to thank our service men and women overseas by painting Treasure Boxes and helping to fill them. Boxes are filled with a number of items including socks (white calf high), crossword puzzle books, soduku books, playing cards, pens/pencils, writing paper, envelopes, travel size toiletries (no bar soap or aerosol), granola bars, mini flashlights, fans , and batteries. The program also requests thank you cards and letters which are greatly appreciated by the troops. The filled treasure boxes are sent overseas during the holidays.
Visitation House is located in Worcester, MA. This residential program helps pregnant women in crisis prepare for the birth of their babies. It also helps them prepare for their life together after their babies are born by providing assistance with housing, education, and employment. Treasure Boxes are donated to the new mothers to be used to save their family photos and special memorabilia.
